Logging In

Using the Calendar

• Open your browser. Go to http://webct.limestone.edu:8900.
• Click “log in to my Web CT
• Enter your WebCT ID


Your ID will be your first initial, middle initial, and last name followed by the four digit month and date of your birthday all in lower case letters.
**If your name contains a hyphen or an apostrophe please disregard it in your WebCT ID. If you do not have a middle initial, then use only your first initial and last name.

Example:
Jane Marie O’Brien
Birthdate: November 6th
WebCT user name: jmobrien1106.


You will then enter your password which will be your social security number without dashes. You can change your password after you log in.

If you follow these instructions exactly yet have trouble logging in, e-mail a message to webct@limestone.edu. Be sure to include the course number, your full name, and the WebCT ID you used.
A link to WebCT is available on Limestone College’s main website under the Quick Links or on the Extended Campus website under Schedules and Resources, then WebCT Login 4.0.

Your instructor may have included a Calendar tool, which
displays events of interest to your group.

Click the Calendar tool to display the current month. (To navigate to different months, use the pull down window at the top and then click “Go.”)
• To view details about an event, click on the day number.
• To create an entry, click on the day number. Then click “Add Entry.The “Add a Calendar Entry” window is displayed. Enter the following information:
• Summary (required) - The text that appears in the date square.
• URL (optional) - Links to an outside web site.
• Detail (optional) - Information displayed when users
click on the day.
• Access Level - “Private” makes the event appear on
only your screen; “Public” makes the event visible to all class members (provided your instructor has allowed for this).
• Click “Add.” and you will see your entry. To make
changes, select the entry and click “Edit.”

 

 

Using the Assignment Dropbox

Using the Discussions Tool

Your instructor may have included an Assignment Dropbox
tool, which allows you to view and submit assignments.

Open the Assignment Dropbox tool. You will see a listing of your assignments. Click the assignment hyperlink. You will see the due date, maximum grade, and instructions, along with a list of any related files your instructor may have added.
• To view a related file, click the filename and, in the popup window, click the filename once more. If you wish to download the file to your desktop, click “Download.”
• To submit a completed assignment, you must first upload it to your Student File Listing. Here’s how: click “Student Files,” browse to locate the file on your desktop, and click “Upload.The filename will appear in your Student File listing. Click the “Return to Assignment” assignment name hyperlink and click “Submit Assignment.In the Student File Listing, click the assignment you want to submit (if more than one is listed) and/or click “Submit Assignment.”

Your instructor may have included a Discussions tool
(Bulletin Board), which allows class members to share
comments about different topics.

Open the Discussions tool. You may see a list of discussion topics. Click on one. Any unread messages are displayed. (To include messages you have already read, click “All”)
• To read a message, click beside the message title.
• To respond to a message, open the message to read it and then click either “Reply” (to entire class), “Reply Privately”
(to sender only), to or “Quote” (includes the original message in your response). Type your reply and click “Send.”
• To post a new message, click “Compose Message.A
“Compose Discussion Message” box appears. Choose the
appropriate Topic (message category) from the pulldown
menu. Then enter a subject, type the message, and click
“Post.”
• To compile selected messages for downloading or printing, click the box to the left of each message you wish to include. Then choose “Compile” at the bottom of the screen.

 

 

Printing from WebCT

Using WebCT E-Mail

WebCT is a frames environment. That is, what you usually
see displayed on the screen is not one document but several,
each surrounded by a frame. If you have problems printing,
you may be trying to print the wrong frame. To print a
document:

Click to place your cursor inside the frame you would like to print (this is important!). A thin colored rectangle should
appear around the border of the frame, indicating that the
frame is selected.
• Choose Print Frame from the browser File menu. If the
Print Frame option isn’t available, you may not have selected a frame, or the page may not be a frame.

Your instructor may have included an E-mail tool, which
allows you to correspond with your instructor and other members of your course.

Click on the Private Mail tool. To see a list of new
messages, click “Inbox.To see a list of previously read
messages, click “ All.”
• To send a message, click “Compose.A “Compose Mail Message” window appears. Click the “Browse” button to
display an address window. Choose the recipient (if choosing more than one, hold down the Command key) and then click “Done.Then enter a subject, type your message, and click “Send.”
• To reply to a message, open the message and click either “Reply” or “Quote” (“Quote” includes the original message in your response; “Reply” does not). Type your reply and click “Send.”
• To create, delete, or rename use the options on the left hand side of the screen.
• To delete a message, move it to a different folder, or
forward it to another member of this course use the options on the left hand side of the screen.

 

 

Taking Quizzes

Using Chat Rooms

Your instructor may have included a Quiz tool, which allows
you to take quizzes and view scores online.

Open the Quiz tool. You will see a list of quizzes, along with the following information:
• Availability - Days and times during which the quiz may be completed.
• Duration - The length of time you may spend on a quiz.
• Grade - Your score / possible points
• Attempts - The number of times you have taken the quiz and the remaining number of times allotted.
• Click on the quiz name.
• Your instructor may have assigned a password to this
particular quiz. If so, enter it and click “Continue.An
instruction page is displayed.
• Click the “Begin Quiz” button.
• For each question, read the directions and answer the
questions. Press “Save Answer” after each entry. Note that
the red circles (in box at upper right) are replaced with green stars as answers are saved.
• Click “Finish” to submit your quiz. If you have forgotten to answer any questions or to click “Save Answer,” you will be reminded and can make the necessary changes. When you see the “Submit Quiz for grading?” prompt, click “OK.”
• Depending on how your instructor constructed the quiz, the results may be available immediately. If so, click “View Results” to see how you did.

Your instructor may have included a Chat tool, which allows
you to converse with other class members in real-time.

Click the Chat tool. This may take a while to load, but a window with chat rooms should eventually appear. If it doesn’t, make sure Java and Java Script are enabled on your web browser (for instructions on how to check, call the Extended Campus Office at 800-795-7151 menu 7).
• When the chat window appears, click on the arranged
meeting room. This will take a while to load, but please don’t click repeatedly, or you will slow down the system for everyone. The names of all users currently logged on are displayed on the right. Any messages entered after you log in appear in the Conversation Text Box. (There’s no way to view messages entered before you log in.)
• To add a comment, type your message at the bottom of the screen and press Enter.
• To exit a chat room, click “Quit,” (at bottom right).

 

 

Changing Your Password

Need Help Using WebCT?

Go to the Student Password Kiosk at https://mailbox.limestone.edu/kiosk/.

Enter your last name and your social, click Get Information. Your WebCT ID will be displayed. Select the Reset Password to SSN link, or the Reset password to a new password link, enter your new password, and then click Change Password.
